Constructors can now analyze IPUZ files

Constructors have used the Analyze your own puzzle page over 50 thousand times, but so far, they've all been in the limited Across Lite .puz format. You can now also analyze ipuz — circles and shades together, colors, Unicode characters, clue formatting!

  • See a view of how your crossword would look here if it were published by the NYT.
  • Create a private link for your testers to solve online.

This is a big change, so please let me know if you find bugs. There are some more obscure ipuz features that are not supported, but the basics work well.

Manny Nosowsky (1932 – 2026)

My favorite constructor. Obituary.

254 puzzles by Manny Nosowsky. All are good. Most are excellent.

UPDATE: Several people have asked me whether Manny held the record for the most NYT crosswords. For some reason, it's a common error. He had the most in the Shortz Era, but he's well off the overall record.

Eugene T. Maleska, William Lutwiniak, and Jack Luzzatto all have well-documented totals greater than Manny's. It's very likely A. J. Santora and Herb L. Risteen, and possibly others, exceeded Manny's total too — their prime constructing years were before bylines were generally included. See most prolific authors.
