Analyze your own crossword

See how your puzzle stacks up statistically, or display it on XWord Info for anyone to solve on-line.

Use this feature to show what your puzzle would look like if it were included in the XWord Info database, including details users see when they click the Analyze button while viewing your puzzle. You get a list of unique entries, Scrabble score, Freshness analysis, Flow, links to all the NYT clues for each of your answer words, and much more. Use | to separate alternate clues.
Note: Most ipuz capabilities work. Let me know if you find bugs.

Angels in the Beta program, you can get an AI analysis as well.

After you upload your file, you can generate a private link so your testers can solve online.

You must be logged into an XWord Info account (any level) to upload a puzzle, but your test solvers do not need an XWord Info account to see or solve your crossword.

If you want to analyze an already-published NYT puzzle, do not use this page. Instead, select it from the Calendar and then click the "Analyze" button on that page.

iPuz format is preferred

Most construction software now allows you to export .ipuz files. This richer format allows color, fancy Unicode characters, and clue formatting like bold and italics.

The older Across Lite puz format still works

Be sure your puzzle is unlocked. If you export from CCW, be sure that "Restrictions" is not checked. Depending on your version of CCW, the export steps are something like this:
