In this puzzle which I believe Will Shortz called "diabolical" when he accepted it, the solver had to reverse the letters not only of the clue, but also of the clue number — and then place the answer in the diagram at the site of the reversed number. Thus, for 27 Across: DRAB, one had to reverse the clue (BARD), and write in the answer at 72 Across (SHAKESPEARE).
